are zoloft or cymbalta good anti depressants? my dr wants me to take cymbalta, is this a good AD? how about zoloft? what are the side effects? thanx!

Rose. replied: "depends on the person. My boyfriend was on zoloft and it didn't work for him. Then another one that made him worse. You just have to try it out and find what one works for you, people react differently to different medication. I know for me with panic/anxiety attacks i went on paxil and it helped me right away and my friends mom is on it for her anti depressant. Just know that whatever you do watch and make sure it won't make you worse or change it."

Holli G replied: "I take cymbalta for anxiety. The only side effects that I have experienced is sleepiness (which I combat by taking my pill before I go to bed), and sometimes if I forget to take it for a couple days and start again, I wake up very early or frequently in the night and get dizzy often. However, when I am taking it regularly and don't forget any doses, all my side effects subside after about a week."

Serena replied: "Everyone reacts differently to different medications. While I cannot take Cymbalta - bad reaction - when I was on it, I had no pain whatsoever (I have fibromyalgia). It was too bad that the Cymbalta didn't work out; I enjoyed being pain free. As far as Zoloft goes, it works well for those who can take it. If it turns out that you can't take either medication or if they just don't work well for you, there are many others out there that your doctor can try. I highly recommend trying the Cymbalta. If I hadn't been allergic, I'd still be on it."

♥Jennifer Jeter is a ghetto diva replied: "I've taken them both because I have OCD. I'm on Cymbalta right now. Zoloft does nothing. It felt like i was taking pez candy. Cymbalta is OKAY but it's not amazing."

does zoloft give bad side effects? i heard that using zoloft makes people sick with amounts of side affects. is that true? i take it because of OCD and anxiety. ad i also use Xanx for panick attacks, tthat'swwhatthe doctor prescibed to be, so asking you people is this a bad choice or should i try not to use medication?

Jared H replied: "All medicine, espeically Zoloft, can have negative side effects."

dialtone replied: "why don't you read about them and find out what % of people get the side effects. DUH!!!!"

TSI replied: "idk but i like your eclipse"

DKNY D replied: "Hi, there are more than one medication that is out there that may be more suitable for you. That is why you take medication and has to be checked at your doctor on regular basis to see if the medication is the right kind for you. In emergency, you can contact local CVS pharmacy. They know more about medication than doctors do."

untold 23 replied: "YEAH its bad stuff, i was on that when i was 18 and im 24 now and the Doc said take it slow when getting off...i did and was wanting to take my life...be careful...it helps ....but be carefull. try jesus"

rialisi replied: "I've been taking zoloft with no side effects.... can't say it's had much of a positive effect either though. The doctor said that at about 200mg/day is when you start to get the side effects. If you're on a lower dosage it should be ok."

Kharli replied: "if the doctor prescribed it you should probably take it. I had been on zoloft for a short period and it wasn't too bad. It made me feel a little more sleepy and it makes you feel a bit numb to feeling. Its hard to explain. It helped me and I hope it helps you."

MEL B. replied: "It varies from person to person, but the people i know who have used it have had no problems."

bizzylizzy replied: "It depends. You can write to me at."

J.D. replied: "i have been taking zoloft for 4 years now for anxiety and i have never gotten sick from it. i say if it works keep using it but if it makes you sick then try something else. cymbalta sucks for anxiety i switched to that for a while and it made the anxiety worse for me. zoloft helps me with the same things you have and again i have had nothing but positive results. hope this helps."

zoloft weaning off side effects? i've tapered off my zoloft (was on 200mgs a day for 1 yr) and have been zoloft free for 6 days... anyone know how long the side effects last for? i have the headaches, buzzy head ad nausea... thanks

lopez_k_s replied: "My own expereince it took me 3 months of decreasing my amount before I was Zoloft free. It took a little over 4 weeks before I finally really felt me again. Here's a tip for you, try not to drink alcohol (if you do drink) while your detoxing off, also watch your eating habits! (gaining weight is actually common) Another would be try a herbal detox when you finally feel better to help your body truely get it all out of your system. Good Luck!"

What would happen if I got pregnant? Heres the deal: I'm on Seroquel, Lamictal, Clonodine, Metadate, and Zoloft for bipolar and OCD and AD/HD. I'm on multiple antibiotics for recurring infections as well as many supplements for health issues.I also take birth control continuously. What I want to know is...what would happen if I managed to get pregnant? Would the baby even stand a chance?

Bob replied: "Well... a baby would come out of you. Bob"

Liberty and Happiness replied: "There's a possibility that you would become a momma."

Annie replied: "Well some pills would be ok but others wouldnt. Docter would tell you."

De replied: "Hello Dreamcatcher, I believe in your best interests, this question can only be answered by your Dr who knows your history and your medications. In my opinion, it would not be wise to attempt becoming pregnant while you have infections, as your body works very hard producing and supporting a baby within you. You really need to be as well as you can to avoid any potential problems for yourself or your baby. I wish you well and hope that when the time IS right for you, you do manage to conceive and have a baby. :))"

cd48410 replied: "well, if you take "the pill" the antibiotics will cancel it out thus meaning taking "the pill" is futile you got shoved way too many meds anyway, i bet you don't need half that shit, you just got told you did. you very well could miscarry within the first 6 weeks and if you don't miscarry (or abort) the fetus will be sickly and/or have some kind of mental/physical defect. use condoms if you must have sex"

Emily replied: "Go ask your doc..he can tell you."

victoriaa replied: "well.. what happens when you get pregnant you have a baby! wow! hope it helped;)"

Is taking Zoloft every other day instead of daily a bad idea? Been on 100mg of Zoloft (sertraline) for a long time now (couple years) but decided I wanted to try something different recently. So I started taking the 100mg tablets every other day instead of daily. I'm less than a week into it but am feeling pretty odd lately, I think i'm confusing my brain with these 'every other day' dosages. Should I just go back to daily? The dilemma is I need at least 100mg of zoloft to keep me going, anything less and I get depressed pretty quick. On the other hand, there are some side effects I really don't like. I can't get a prescription for any other kind of AD pill, the Docs want to keep me on Zoloft even though I've tried to persuade them to let me try something else. So I was hoping taking it every other day would solve my problems but i've feeling pretty odd.

Shelby replied: "you do it just you want it.You go to doctor.then Listen to her. therapy may work besides zoloft. Your doctor does not listen to you or not give importance what you say, appreise how you feel and ask your friends and if it is needed, then change him."

Emma F replied: "No, you need to take it every day. Otherwise your brain will get confused because it starts to feel out of balance again, and you shouldn't change your daily routine unless your doctor says it's OK. You should ask your doctors why you are being kept on Zoloft and why they will not try something else. They may have a valid reason for this, they may not. You don't say what type of side effects you are having. I had side effects such as nausea, and constipation during the first 2 months, but after that I was fine. If you don't like what you hear, you could always see another doc and get a second opinion."

Your Assistant replied: "You and I both know you are not doing the right thing. You need to do it daily and I will tell you why. It goes out of your system in 24 hours and then you go into withdrawal, then you get a dose, then again withdrawal, this is worse than just quitting it altogether. I bet you got this from a regular md if that is the case, go to a counselor talk about your issues and have them refer you to a good psychiatrist that may help you better. If you are seeing a psychiatrist you are just not following directions. If this medication is not working for you than you need to up the dose or try something like Lexapro. I dont know, but what you are doing is not right, K? No judgement, just facts, and I do care and wish you the best, I remain, Your assistant"

dodee replied: "When doctors don’t know what to do they give anti-depressant medication. It is bad and you will get more depressed. We all have natural ability to heal our self, you can learn all about it on this website I tried the technique no medicine is involved now I feel I am in control of my life."

MeAgain replied: "If you are feeling Pretty Odd that could be a sign of withdrawals, stick to what the doctor has prescribed and the next time you see him. Tell him again about the side effects and why they are causing you problems Have you decided what other medication you want to use instead and do you have a good reason for wanting to switch. These are some of the things you need to be able to tell you doctor."

Simon W replied: "You can't take Sertraline every other day, it is not Prozac, Sertraline has a half life of about 26 hours so you need to take it every day, or you will feel a mess. If you want to come off sertraline then take the 50mg pills every day and see how you get on. There are several other SSRIs you could try which may work as well but with fewer side effects, but if you have been ok on Sertraline for the last 2 years your doctor may not want you to try them incase they don't suit you."

withdrawal symptom (off zoloft 50mg) help!? a week ago my perscription of zoloft ran out after 6months on it. (it caused panic attacks/weight gain,so my doc said to quit it cold turkey, n switch to a new AD next week). the first few days off it were fine. then i started getting very weak, trembly n dizzy. Yesterday I had to stay home from school because I kept throwing up etc. now I can barely stand up (keep nearling fainting) I have a few headaches, but nothing too bad. My mood swings have also returned something chronic, and im always grumpy. Should i expect other symptoms? When will these go away? I have school tomorrow too...should i take another day off or risk it n push myself through this? also my best friends got her bday sunday and we're going laser warring, which means lots of running around n stuff. id HATE to miss that...can anyone suggest ways to help get rid of or tame the dizzyness/nauseous/weakness/trembles/tingylyness? thanks! thanks for the help so far. fraid i cant wean myself off it now though, as (due to the perscription running out) i can't get any new tablets of a lower dose or ones i can cut in half etc. basically, i cant get zoloft anymore, but i can get Cipramil. no doubt cipramil has side effects when i first start it too though...should i start that sooner ir wait till the withdrawal symptoms go away?

sean951082 replied: "my friend emma was having withdrawl so instead of just quiting slowly take less and less dosses=)"

NicoleHelps replied: "I'm sorry to hear about your trouble getting off of this medication. I have been on similar medication in the past and have learned that sometimes the doctors are not right. I can't count the times doctors have told me to go from 50mg of a drug and then stop, or to cut cold turkey. I have learned that coming off of a medication as slowly as possible is the best for your body. Try getting 25mg tablets from your doctor. If he will not do this, I would cut the 50mg tablet in half (if it is safe to take it this way). Another way to taper off a medication is to take it every other day, then every second day, every third day, etc. I know how bad withdrawl symptoms can be. Hang in there and, again, come off the medication as slowly as possible for less side effects."

Edina T replied: "don't understand why your doc decided to quit it cold turkey. after 6 months there is no need to stop it inside one week. 2 weeks would have been best, 1 week by 25 mg and the last week by 12,5 mg. talk to your doc. ask him to perscribe lorazepam for the next 2 weeks, maybe 2 x 1/2 mg/d would be good."

titaniumbird00 replied: "Hello, I just started on the same drug, 4 days in, and I'm reading up on all the things I might face. Why did your physician stop the perscription if it was working? Some of the side effects make me a little nervous, the strain on the liver is a concern as well, watch the drinking, alcohol will double tax the liver. Wikipedia has a great write up on SSRI drugs, including those we're on. "

Zoloft-trouble with it? Last summer, after numerous crises, I was put on 50mg zoloft by my doctor. I was skeptical after a bad experience with paxil once about SSRIs and that he didn't give me a concurrent tranquilizer. For a while it really worked. But for the past few months it seems that the world is black again, my depression and anxiety is bad, I have had to take ad-hoc other anti-anxiety medications that were available to me. Finally I saw another dr. last night, discovered I had blown up to 163 pounds (I was 140), I was nervous, not eating or sleeping right, and very depressed, but afraid to get off it because of the diziness. He gave me a Rx for 1mg Klonopin (something I have usually responded well to) albeit a stingy one (once a day, usually it's been given to me 2-3x per day) but told me NOT to stop with the zoloft. I hate even looking at the bottle of Zoloft. Took 2 of the klonopin last night and slept like a baby and felt less anxious. Anyone have the same?

Diane A replied: "Zoloft has been know to trigger suicidal tendencies when stopped abruptly and that is why your doctor is weening you off if it and slowly replacing it with Klonopin."

Babypooh replied: "YOUR BODY HAS BECOME IMMUNIE to the drug speak with your docter immediaty my ex had this problem a few years ago they ended up changing his meds and upping nhis dosage"

kelly e replied: "I took myself off Zoloft after 11 months. I found it did help me at a time when life was crazy (three busy kids in the tween years and a stressful job, and nearly losing my dad). I found it made me yawn a lot and I gained some weight. I was also on Klonopin as needed for stress moment. It helped. Maybe take yourself off Zoloft slowly, and do the Klonopin when you have a little anxiety. I found just eliminating the stress (quit my job and work from home now) helped and doing a nice thing for myself daily. Also letting everyone know I am mom but not super woman. Seemed to help too. Good Luck"

Amanda S replied: "Well, Klonopin (an anxiolytic) cannot replace Zoloft (an antidepressant), but it does appear that maybe you should change meds. Paxil has an antianxiety quality to it, I believe. Zoloft should not have the side effect of weight gain though; are you taking anything else? Have you had you thyroid checked lately?"

lisa1cares replied: "Adverse Effects In clinical development programs, sertraline has been evaluated in 1902 subjects with depression. The most commonly observed adverse events associated with the use of sertraline were: gastrointestinal complaints, including nausea, diarrhea/loose stools and dyspepsia; male sexual dysfunction (primarily ejaculatory delay); insomnia and somnolence; tremor; increased sweating and dry mouth; and dizziness. In the fixed dose placebo controlled study, the overall incidence of side effects was dose related with a majority occurring in the patients treated with 200 mg dose. The discontinuation rate due to adverse events was 15% in 2710 subjects who received sertraline in premarketing multiple dose clinical trials. The more common events (reported by at least 1% of subjects) associated with discontinuation included agitation, insomnia, male sexual dysfunction (primarily ejaculatory delay), somnolence, dizziness, headache, tremor, anorexia, diarrhea/loose stools, nausea and fatigue."

Maria M replied: "My first recommendation is to speak to your doctor to see if there is possibly another ssri to put you on or to increase your zoloft in conjunction with a benzodiazepine to help reduce the possibility of anxiety issues while your body gets adjusted to the higher dose. If your doctor gives you attitude with your concern do not be afraid to get a second opinion. I went through so many doctors until I found one that was willing to address my concerns and help me. I had alot of issues and side effects with different ssri's and took probably all of them before finding one that worked for me. But the constant factor in all of the different meds is that I always had a benzodiazepine to smooth out any side effects, and get rid of my anxiety while I was waiting to see if the meds worked. I will admit I gained alot of weight with my Zoloft but it isn't impossible to lose. my psych doctor has me on an exercise program that helps to elevate my moods and keep excess weight from creeping on. I was in really bad shape fitness wise and started by walking or riding my stationary bike for 5 minutes at a time and worked my way up over a few months to 30 minutes a day and believe me, it helps :) Currently I am taking 100 mgs of Zoloft myself with 1 to 2 mg of klonopin as needed. I started at 25 mgs Zoloft and increased the dosage to 50 and then 100 after a while. I also have anxiety disorder and both seems to work well to control it. Klonopin seems to really sedate me but it definitely helps me sleep. Remember that you are the most important person. If you dont feel comfortable with your doctor definitely get a second opinion. You will be fine and will get your old self back in no time."

I take zoloft 150mg? i have GAD,Deppression and Ocd i take Zoloft 150mg everyday i seems to work..it keeps me steady..i dont by any means feel happy or better...but it does keep me sain for the most part it inables me to live each day without wanting to kill myslef...my Question is i want to feel happy and better.. but i dont want to quit Zoloft in fear il lose everything i have gain so far from when i didnt take it does anyone take it at a high dose that works.or somethign u take with it...i no i should talk to my docter and i have im just trying to get a personal idea also it makes me feel tired ad run now right after i take it for about and hour but after that im fine and it also gives me very very strange dreams..doea anyone else get this?

Fire replied: "Zoloft numbs you. That's basically Zoloft's job. Other medications might be better suited for you if you want to actually feel again and be stable. Ask your doctor about Wellbutrin or Effexor. They're SSRI... or maybe more accurately, SNRIs. Be careful, though. Mind-altering pharmaceuticals are a "dark, dizzy merry-go-round.""

Alex62 replied: "I'd try a higher dose before bailing for another med. You say it is working, just not all the way. Seems smart to give it a full work out. If it doesn't do it for you, then try something else. I'm always apprehensive about switching meds. Who knows what side effects will go along with 'em. That, and then there's the discontinuation to deal with, too."

Kari N replied: "If you don't like the way Zoloft is making you feel (like you said you're very tired and you're having weird dreams and you feel more emotionally numb than anything) then ask your doctor to switch your prescription. I'm currently taking citalopram for my depression and it works for me, but I had to try a myriad of other things before settling on it (in fact, I'm allergic to Zoloft; it gave me heart palpitations and hives). It's not often that a doctor will give you just one type of anti-depressant and it will just magically work. That's why there are so many different kinds, because no one drug will work for everybody. So if you're not liking Zoloft, ask to try something else and see if it's any different for you. There's no risk in losing everything you've worked for thus far. There's no reason to take something that makes you numb to emotions just because it's slightly better than being depressed all the time. Just talk to your doctor and therapist and tell them how you feel and that you'd like to try something else. I'm sure they will be open minded about it. Good luck!"

Marguerite replied: "The maximum dose for zoloft is 200 mgs. So you have room to increase. It is very common for 2 antidepressants to be prescribed for a depressed person. Each antidepressant acts differently with the brain. If the zoloft makes you tired during the day, change the time you take the medication, so you will feel the tiredness at night when you should feel this way. People change their schedule when they take their meds all the time. So, I recommend you talking with your doc and discussing a possible increase in the zoloft and/or adding another antidepressant. You hang in there. You can definitely feel much better."

ZOLOFT. I'm scared worried and don't know what to do? I just started tAking zoloft on thursday evening and I'm experiencing a lot of bad side effects, the only good one is that I'm more talkative and happy. Anyways just after 3 days of taking it, it makes me feel like I'm crazy I don't feel right at all. I feel like I'm in a tv or dreaming, anyways my question was, I was reading reviews on zoloft and there's news reports of it and people were taking zoloft became violent and killed there loved ones and then it even happens when you stop taking it, well I have a 4 and a half month old who I love so so much ad my parents and I'm quiting cold turkey tomorrow but I'm very affairs I might go after them and kill them.... Am I just crazy or what?? Please help me I'm also scared of the nightmares

kityktz replied: "call your doctor right away. you may need a dosage change, you may need for your system to get used to the drug. Antidepressants take time to build up in your system."

findinghope replied: "if u have side effects that your comfortable with call your doctor and discuss your concerns with him...there are tons of other antidepressants that work wonderfully and have low side effects!! i didn't care too much for the zoloft either! welbutrin was good for me but seriously go to your doctor!"

Pisces_Girl replied: "While I haven't been on zoloft, I know that it does take a few weeks for any new antidepressant to work in your system. So 4 days isn't long enough to notice effects. Personally, I'd get worse after switching before it got better. Side effects are side effects for a reason. However, you should never quit cold turkey. If you're very concerned, call your doctor ASAP."

pam replied: "I have been on zoloft before and this is very common. This happens alot when you start a new medication and it should go away soon but you should still call your doctor."

twitaylor replied: "if you know about psychology Please help! "

Lacey replied: "If you feel like killing anyone right now, go to the nearest ER. If not, call your MD and discusses your fears and symptoms with your MD. It's normal to feel a bit different when first starting a medication. It is not very likely you will murder anyone. The news reports did not say it was common. What you heard is an event that could have been caused by many other factors besides the medication. The Zoloft will help with your anxiety as well. Before you decide to not take it, discuss your symptoms with your MD. There are a lot of medications to chose from if the Zoloft is truly not agreeing with you. Personally, I think it's best to see a psychiatrist for any medications for mental problems. They are the experts."

CHELLE! replied: "im 17 years old and i know that its so hard. Remembering to take the meds, and having to take meds to be able to function right really sucks. Seriously, do not quit cold turkey though. If you get panic attacks every so often it will be 3248925 times worse coming off of zoloft- cold turkey. You have to speak with your dr. about other options. THe side effects are always a bitch when you first start taking it. I would often forget and lash out at people. When i took it regularly i was fine but i know exactly what yiou mean by feeling like your dreaming. I don't even feel alive off of this medication.. continue taking it as your sopposed to for atleast a month and then decide whether you want to continue or not but speak with your doc!"

What AD helps social anxiety / depression with minimal side effects? I've tried Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft, and they all seem to effect my ability to concentrate and think clearly. Are all ADs like this?

tarlie8 replied: "i actually cant answer this question but I have one for you. My husband has social anxiety and I have a hard time understanding it. Why cant you just go to social functions and learn to deal with them? Not to be harsh, just want some advice on supporting him and helping him. He used to drink to deal with social situations, now he's trying to quit so we dont do anything it seems like anymore!!"

sleepinbeautie2003 replied: "were you taking them for a long time? i have had sertraline before and they made me feel like an airhead for about 4 weeks then as my body got used to them it got better. There are so many different AD's out there maybe you just havent found the right one yet"

Anita replied: "Try SAM-E it's natural, proven and safe.....how depressed are you? Also exercise on a regular basis....Good Luck! Most of the AD's have some side-effects, different for different people......Make sure you get enough sunlight every day...or take vitamin D supplements."
